Managing Tags

Tags are a separate labeling system from categories, a way to mark transactions with something that cuts across categories rather than replacing them. The Tags page, reachable from the sidebar, is where you create and manage the full list.

    Creating and editing a tag

Click Add Tag on the Tags page, or use the "+" next to Tags in the sidebar, give it a name and an optional description, and save. Click any existing tag in the list to reopen it and edit either field the same way.

    Active vs. inactive

Every tag carries an Active or Inactive status. Marking a tag inactive removes it from being selectable on transactions going forward, without touching any transaction it's already applied to, it's a way to retire a tag you no longer need without erasing its history. The status filter lets you switch between viewing only Active tags or everything, Active and Inactive together.

    Applying tags to transactions

Tags are applied from the transaction itself, not from this page, open any transaction and add one or more tags to it from there. Each transaction row in your Transactions list shows a small count if it has tags attached, so you can spot tagged transactions at a glance.

    Deleting a tag

Select one or more tags and delete them in bulk. This is permanent, and deleting a tag automatically removes it from every transaction it was applied to, the transactions themselves are untouched, only that tag reference is cleared.

    Exporting your tag list

Select any tags in the table and use the export action to download them as a CSV, including their name, description, last-used date, and status, handy if you want a record of your tagging system outside Fyscal.

Tip: Tags work best for labels that span multiple categories, something like "Reimbursable" or "Tax Deductible" might apply to a meal, a flight, and a piece of software all at once, which a single category can't capture on its own.
