Creating a Budget
By ZohaibSetting a budget is what turns a category from a passive label into something Fyscal can actually measure you against. Without one, a category just tracks what happened, with one, it also tracks whether that matched what you planned.
Creating a budget
- Click Create Budget on the Budget page, or use Quick Add in the sidebar.
- Choose which category the budget applies to.
- Enter the amount you want to budget for that category.
- Save. The amount appears in the table for the month or months you set it for.
Budgeting income, not just expenses
Budgets aren't limited to expense categories. You can set a budget for an income category too, for example your expected salary, and Fyscal will compare it against what actually came in, which is a useful way to catch a missed or late payment early.
Adjusting later
Budgets aren't locked in once created. If your rent goes up or you want to tighten your grocery spending next month, open the budget again and change the amount, the table updates immediately.
Tip: A category with no budget still shows up in the table if it has any activity, its cell just shows a dash instead of a percentage until you set an amount for it.
