Building a Custom Report
By ZohaibCustom Report is the most flexible tool in Reports, a pivot-table-style builder where you choose exactly what to group by, how to break it out over time, and what to filter down to. It's still in Beta, so a few things are simpler than they'll eventually be, but it already covers a lot of ground.
Rows: what you're grouping by
Choose one or more dimensions to group your rows by: Categories, Tags, Merchants, or Accounts. You can select more than one and drag to reorder them, which creates nested sub-grouping, for example, Category as the outer group with Tag nested inside each one.
Columns: your time breakdown
Unlike Rows, Columns is a single choice: Total (one combined column), Months, Quarters, or Years. You can't currently mix granularities, so pick whichever level of detail matches the question you're trying to answer.
Filters: narrowing the data
Beyond Rows and Columns, a separate Filter control lets you narrow the whole report down by Categories, Tags, Merchants, Accounts, Account Type, Account Subtype, or Category Type, each with a searchable checklist so you can pick exactly what you want included. A small badge shows how many filters are currently active.
Sorting and totals
Click any column header to sort the report by that column, ascending or descending. A Grand Total row at the bottom sums everything across the whole report, and results paginate automatically once a report grows large.
Beta limitations to know about
- Rows in a Custom Report aren't clickable yet, there's no drill-down into transactions from here the way there is on Net Income and Net Worth.
- There's no export or download option yet.
- Only one time granularity is available per report, you can't combine Months and Quarters in the same view.
Tip: Start simple: pick a single Rows dimension and leave Columns on Total. Once you can see the shape of your data, add a second Rows dimension or switch to a period breakdown for more detail.
